A crypto user recently lost approximately 100,000 USDT in a classic address poisoning attack. Security monitoring firm Cyvers Alerts spotted the suspicious transaction on August 11, revealing that the victim accidentally sent funds to a scammer address that looked almost identical to a legitimate contact.

The attacker had planted the fake wallet address deep inside the victim transaction history sixty six days before the theft occurred. Scammers use this trick by generating addresses that match the first and last few characters of a target wallet, hoping users will copy and paste the wrong address from recent transfers without checking every single character.

This incident serves as a strong reminder to always double check full wallet addresses before sending large amounts of crypto. Traders should perform a small test transaction first when dealing with new or unfamiliar wallet addresses to keep their funds safe.
