Claude Fable 5 Loses Top AI Coding Spot to China’s Kimi K3

Claude Fable 5 has officially lost its crown as the best AI for writing website code. According to the latest rankings from Arena, a new model called Kimi K3 has taken the number one spot. Built by China's Moonshot AI, the new contender scored 1,679 points, pushing Fable 5 down to second place with 1,631 points.

The shift was sudden and impressive. The previous version of this model was ranked 18th, but the new Kimi K3 jumped straight to the lead. It outperformed Claude in almost every category, including marketing design and data analytics. Claude Fable 5 only managed to hold onto its lead in the gaming category.

This news is a big deal because Kimi K3 is much cheaper to use than its rivals. It costs about a third of what Anthropic charges for Claude. Moonshot AI also plans to release the full model weights for free on July 27, which means anyone can run the top coding AI on their own soon.

While Anthropic still has several models in the top 20, the rise of Chinese AI is becoming hard to ignore. We are seeing a trend where these models are getting more usage and offering better value than their US counterparts.
