Ethereum finished August on a high note, gaining 28 percent as the broader market saw a significant rebound. With ETH currently trading near 2,380 dollars, traders are now looking at whether this positive momentum can survive the typical September slowdown.

The case for further gains starts with institutional interest. Spot Ethereum ETFs have seen 12 consecutive days of positive flows, bringing over 1.5 billion dollars into the market. At the same time, the amount of ETH held on exchanges has dropped to levels not seen since 2016. This shift toward self custody typically reduces immediate selling pressure, making it harder for the price to drop sharply.

Whale activity also suggests confidence from large investors. Recent data shows mysterious participants purchasing over 100 million dollars in ETH, and companies like BitMine continue to accumulate aggressively. BitMine has now spent 65 consecutive weeks increasing its holdings as it approaches a goal of owning 5 percent of the total Ethereum supply.

Despite these signals, history suggests a cautious approach. September is statistically one of the weakest months for the coin, having closed in the red 7 out of 11 times. Given that August finished with strong gains, traders are watching closely to see if 2026 will be the year that breaks this historical trend of seasonal decline.
