Crypto M&A Hits $9.6 Billion Record but Market Is Concentrating
Crypto mergers and acquisitions hit record dollar values this year, but a closer look shows fewer deals and more industry consolidation.
The crypto industry saw a record $9.66 billion in merger and acquisition activity during the first half of 2026. While the total value jumped 223 percent compared to the end of 2025, the actual number of deals dropped by 25 percent to just 87. This shows that the market is shifting toward a smaller number of massive agreements rather than a broad surge of activity.
Concentration is the real story behind these numbers. Only 21 deals disclosed their actual value, and the four largest transactions made up 76 percent of the total volume. One specific move, the $4.2 billion agreement for Bullish to buy Equiniti, accounted for nearly half of the entire half year record.
This shift highlights how the market is changing. The buyers are increasingly large public companies and regulated firms, which are required to disclose details about their purchases. Smaller, private firms that previously drove deal numbers have pulled back, leaving the major players to shape the current landscape.
Infrastructure has now taken the top spot as the most targeted category for acquisitions, while interest in Decentralized Finance dropped significantly. As the market continues to consolidate, investors should focus on these large institutional moves rather than expecting a widespread rise in company valuations across the board.
