Crypto payments platform Coinsbuy recently suffered a security breach resulting in the theft of $7.9 million in digital assets. Attackers drained platform wallets across the Ethereum and Tron networks. Blockchain investigators first spotted the unauthorized transfers, prompting Coinsbuy to temporarily freeze all deposits and withdrawals to contain the damage.

Following the exploit, the bad actors began laundering the stolen funds by converting them into privacy coins like Monero through various exchanges. Quick action from some platforms helped mitigate the total loss, with ChangeNOW successfully freezing a six figure amount tied to the stolen funds. Coinsbuy has since resumed normal operations for its users after securing the affected systems.

This incident stands as the largest reported crypto exploit so far in August. Industry data shows a concerning rise in the total number of security breaches during the first half of the year, even though overall financial losses have dropped compared to previous periods. Traders should remain cautious and watch for updates on asset recovery efforts as investigators track the remaining funds.
