Wintermute is expanding its reach into traditional finance after its US arm registered as a broker dealer. The new status allows the firm to act as a market maker on American stock exchanges and handle crypto exchange traded funds, a market currently dominated by Wall Street heavyweights.

Chief Executive Evgeny Gaevoy has set a three to five year timeline to compete directly with established market makers like Citadel Securities, Jane Street, and Jump Trading. The firm plans to roll out its services in stages, starting with commodities and digital asset exchange traded funds before eventually moving into tokenized equities if regulators give the green light.

The push comes as institutional interest continues to grow, with institutions driving seventy two percent of Wintermute spot over the counter volume in the first half of the year. However, securing the license is only the first step, as the firm still needs individual approvals for market maker status and specific asset classes.

Traders should watch for Wintermute to begin onboarding its new ETF clients and pushing further into traditional exchange plumbing. While Wall Street firms currently hold a tight grip on exchange listings and initial public offerings, this move bridges the gap between digital assets and traditional finance.
