Weak US Jobs Data Sparks $2.5 Billion Gold Surge on Binance
Binance gold futures hit a four month high as weak US employment numbers send traders running to safe haven assets.
Crypto traders on Binance pushed gold futures volume past $2.5 billion on Friday, marking one of the busiest trading days for the asset in four months. The rush to safe haven assets follows a disappointing July jobs report that missed expectations by a wide margin. Nonfarm payrolls dropped by 23,000 during the month, while previous months saw significant downward revisions.
At the same time, a massive drop in workforce participation pushed the unemployment rate down to 4.1 percent. This economic weakness triggered a broader rally for the precious metal, helping gold end a four month losing streak. Traditional markets saw similar shifts, with global gold exchange traded funds pulling in $3 billion in July to reverse months of consecutive outflows.
Analysts point out that this heavy trading volume shows crypto native investors are actively hedging against economic uncertainty. The weak employment numbers also changed market forecasts for the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting, shifting rate expectations significantly. Traders are now waiting for the next major inflation report on August 12 to see how the broader financial markets react next.
