UK Investment Giant Hargreaves Lansdown Lists Bitcoin

Hargreaves Lansdown, the largest investment platform in the United Kingdom, has finally opened crypto trading to its approximately two million users. The platform introduced nine different products that track the Bitcoin price, with offerings managed by major asset managers like BlackRock, Invesco, and CoinShares. Annual fees for these notes range from zero to 0.35 percent.

Despite the milestone, the rollout comes with heavy restrictions. The platform still labels crypto products as high risk. Everyday users face strict wealth requirements, needing an annual income of one hundred thousand pounds or savings of two hundred and fifty thousand pounds. Buyers must also pass a knowledge test and wait twenty four hours before trading.

Timing is another major hurdle for investors. The UK tax office closed a crucial tax free window in April, meaning these new purchases must go into standard taxable accounts or pensions. Early adopters who used rival platforms last winter secured permanent tax free profits, while clients buying today face standard capital gains taxes.

Traders should watch for future regulatory updates from UK ministers, as officials have hinted that ordinary tax free accounts might regain access to crypto notes down the road. For now, market watchers are keeping an eye on how many high net worth British clients actually take up the offer.
