LIVETrump Media and Technology Group has called off its planned Cronos treasury venture with Crypto.com and Yorkville Acquisition Corp. The companies also dropped a related services agreement along with a set of digital asset products. Interim chief executive officer Kevin McGurn explained that the treasury sector has become too crowded, prompting the firm to shift attention back to Truth Social, data licensing, and a pending merger with fusion energy company TAE.
The venture originally aimed to build the first publicly traded Cronos treasury firm using the CRO token and the Crypto.com blockchain. Yorkville Acquisition Corp agreed to the termination, though its America First exchange traded funds will continue operating. The strategy change follows a $406 million quarterly loss driven by crypto markdowns earlier in the year. McGurn noted that staking CRO also lost priority for Crypto.com, making the split logical for both partners.
Alongside the treasury cancellation, Trump Media scaled back plans to run built in betting features inside Truth Social. Instead of operating the prediction markets directly, the platform will use a marketing arrangement to promote Crypto.com prediction products to its users. The company is now growing its Truth Social application programming interface business, which sells platform data to high frequency trading firms and developers.
Traders will watch to see if Trump Media can successfully close its TAE merger before the end of the year. The pivot away from crypto infrastructure leaves the company aiming to generate reliable revenue through social media growth and data licensing instead.
