LIVETrump Media and Technology Group, Crypto.com, and Yorkville Acquisition Corp. have officially scrapped their $6.42 billion business merger. The deal was set to create a new public company aimed at holding large amounts of CRO, the native token of the Cronos blockchain. Both parties stated that changing business priorities and current market conditions led to the decision to walk away.
This termination also ends plans for a partnership where Crypto.com would have managed specific ETF products for Yorkville. While the project is dead, Trump Media is still keeping its focus on Truth Social, including a pivot toward promoting prediction market products. Following the news, the price of CRO saw a decline of over 11 percent.
Despite this shift, Trump Media remains a major player in the crypto space. The company currently holds over $600 million in Bitcoin, making it one of the largest public holders of the asset. Leadership at the firm indicated that the decision to end the CRO deal was driven by a saturated market for digital asset treasury firms rather than regulatory pressure.
Looking ahead, Trump Media is turning its attention toward growing its data and API business, which currently serves high frequency trading firms. The company is also working to finalize a separate merger with fusion energy firm TAE before the end of the year. Investors should watch how these new business lines perform as the company moves away from its initial crypto treasury ambitions.
