Federal prosecutors in Connecticut have charged three men from St. Louis with a failed plot to steal a fortune in Bitcoin. Sedric Louis, John Davis, and Martel Williams allegedly traveled to Connecticut in 2024 to target an individual known to possess stolen digital assets. The group planned to break into the victim's family home and force a cryptocurrency transfer at gunpoint.

The suspects reportedly stalked the victim and his parents for two days using rental vehicles, air rifles, and walkie talkies. However, the men abandoned the mission after fearing that home security cameras had spotted them and experiencing communication breakdowns with the people who recruited them.

While the Missouri trio failed, the plot took a violent turn shortly after when a separate group from Florida arrived. That group eventually carried out a carjacking and kidnapped the victim's parents. Authorities have already secured guilty pleas from the six men involved in that follow up crime, while the alleged coordinators of the overall scheme also face federal charges.

Each of the three Missouri defendants now faces a conspiracy charge under the Hobbs Act, which carries a potential prison sentence of up to 20 years. Louis and Davis remain in custody, while Williams was released on bond. All three have entered not guilty pleas as the legal proceedings continue.
