SoftBank Group saw its stock fall 4.4 percent to 5,695 yen on Thursday. Investors reacted coldly to the report despite the company logging a net income of 347.3 billion yen, which blew past the 120.23 billion yen estimate from market analysts.

The profit spike was largely fueled by a gain of over 1.3 trillion yen on the firm's Intel stake. However, the market seems more focused on the dwindling returns from its Vision Fund. Profits in that segment crashed by nearly 99 percent compared to the same time last year, largely because the value of its OpenAI stake remained flat this quarter.

While SoftBank continues to bet heavily on artificial intelligence, including plans to push its total investment in OpenAI toward 64.6 billion dollars by 2026, the market is clearly wary. The company also reported wider losses in its AI computing segment, which includes Arm, due to rising operational expenses.

Traders will want to watch how these high stakes AI investments perform in future quarters. With the Vision Fund failing to repeat its previous success, the company faces pressure to prove its long term strategy can deliver consistent growth for shareholders.
