Senator Lummis Pushes for Clarity Act Amid Stalled Senate Vote

Republican Senator Cynthia Lummis has issued a strong message to her Democratic colleagues as the Senate prepares to vote on the crypto Clarity Act next week. The legislation, which sets clear rules for distinguishing between digital securities, commodities, and stablecoins, was delayed prior to the recent five week congressional recess. Lummis warned that failing to pass the bill now could result in no further legislative progress on the matter for the rest of the decade.

Lummis argues that the bill is a bipartisan effort designed to protect consumers and solidify the position of the United States in the digital asset sector. She expressed frustration with Democratic lawmakers who continue to request changes that she believes could give future regulators too much power to restrict the industry. According to Lummis, the path forward requires additional compromise from the Democratic side.

The Clarity Act passed in the House of Representatives last year but has faced significant hurdles in the Senate. Conflicts between the banking industry and crypto companies regarding stablecoin yields, along with new debates over government ethics, have contributed to the stall.
