LIVEThe Ethereum ecosystem faced a rough stretch after the AFX and Verus bridges lost roughly $31.7 million in combined assets within just a few hours. The AFX exploit saw 24.15 million USDC drained from its custody bridge. Investigators believe the attack originated from a compromise in their internal development environment and validator systems.
Shortly after, the Verus bridge suffered a separate incident where it processed unauthorized withdrawals of ETH and other tokens worth about $7.54 million. Analysts noted that the bridge failed to verify that these withdrawals were properly backed by assets. This highlights ongoing concerns regarding the security of cross chain communication and validation logic.
Adding to the market tension, the B² Network suspended its staking platform. The team reported unauthorized access to the upgrade authority of its staking contract. While the network promised to compensate users, they have implemented a manual exit process through their official channel while security reviews continue.
These events underscore the risks associated with bridge infrastructure and contract upgrade controls. As these protocols work toward remediation and fund recovery, users remain focused on whether these platforms can secure their systems against further unauthorized access or repeat exploits.
