Pfizer Agrees to $44 Million Settlement for Chantix Claims

Pfizer has reached a proposed $44 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit regarding its drug Chantix. The legal battle centers on allegations that the smoking cessation medication was contaminated with a nitrosamine compound, which is considered a probable human carcinogen. The settlement aims to compensate individuals and third party payers who purchased the drug between September 2015 and September 2021.

While Pfizer has agreed to the payout to avoid the cost and uncertainty of continuing legal proceedings, the company maintains that it did not engage in any wrongdoing. Claimants who purchased the medication during the specified period must provide documentation such as receipts or credit card statements to be eligible for a pro rata share of the settlement fund.
