LIVETaj Tarsha, the founder of the NFT project Few and Far, is facing federal charges for securities and wire fraud. Prosecutors allege that Tarsha raised $10 million from investors by promising to build a decentralized marketplace, only to divert the funds for his own use. The indictment states that the money was spent on online gambling, crypto speculation, a condominium loan, and his personal DJ hobby.
According to the charges, the deception began in early 2022 when Tarsha sold 95 million FAR tokens through private contracts. While the project initially gained credibility through a partnership with the NEAR Foundation, internal audits eventually revealed that Tarsha had paid himself unauthorized bonuses and lied to investors about the company's financial status. Even after the company had no real revenue and most staff had left, he continued to claim the funds were necessary for development.
When the FAR token finally launched in May 2024, it failed to hold value and trading stopped shortly after. If convicted, Tarsha could face up to 20 years in prison for each count. The case is now being handled by the same judge who oversaw the trial of Sam Bankman Fried. For now, Tarsha is presumed innocent as the legal process moves forward.
