The Mina blockchain recently resumed operations after a major upgrade, but users must wait for app developers to update their verification keys.

LIVEThe Mina network experienced an eight hour outage on September 3 as the project pushed its Mesa mainnet upgrade. The network stopped processing transactions at 10:00 UTC and eventually paused block production entirely for three hours as the transition took place. While the blockchain is now producing blocks again, the upgrade changed underlying protocol constants that temporarily disrupted zero knowledge applications.
Because the Mesa update changed the way circuits work, existing verification keys are no longer compatible with the new network rules. Developers must now use the latest version of the o1js toolkit to recompile their keys and update them on the blockchain. Until these updates are submitted, any application relying on proof authorized transactions will remain inactive.
To keep things running, Mina has implemented a temporary fallback mechanism that allows some transactions to proceed using digital signatures instead of zero knowledge proofs. This measure ensures that users are not permanently locked out of their accounts while developers work on the necessary technical patches. Exchanges are also slowly resuming MINA transfers as they finish their own internal upgrades.
Moving forward, the Mesa release brings significant performance improvements, including halving slot times from three minutes to 90 seconds. While developers have implemented a temporary limit of 12 transactions per block to maintain stability, the upgrade sets the stage for a faster network. Traders should keep an eye on official exchange announcements regarding deposit and withdrawal availability.
