MicroStrategy continued its recent selling streak by offloading 1,690 Bitcoin between August 3 and August 9. The company sold the holdings at an average price of $64,262, which falls well below its average cost basis of $75,385. This move resulted in a realized loss of approximately $18.8 million for the firm.

While the company shed Bitcoin, it simultaneously ramped up its stock sale efforts. MicroStrategy raised $653.1 million by selling over 6.5 million shares of its common stock. Of that total, $650 million was directed into the company's cash reserves, which now sit at $4.65 billion. The remaining funds were added to its general cash balance.

The firm used the proceeds from the Bitcoin sale to repurchase 1,152,020 shares of its own preferred stock. This action falls under a digital credit repurchase program that was first announced earlier this summer. Even with these sales, the firm still holds over 840,000 Bitcoin.

Investors are keeping a close watch on this strategy shift. Although Chairman Michael Saylor has previously framed these financing maneuvers as a way to bolster the company's long term position, the consistent selling at a loss has caught the market's attention. All eyes will be on whether the firm chooses to use these expanded cash reserves to buy back into the market later this year.
