LIVEA piece of software known as the Yoink MEV bot just pulled off a clever rescue on the Ethereum network. The bot spotted a brewing exploit targeting a Safe wallet containing 2,900 rsETH. This stash is currently valued at roughly $7.8 million.
Instead of letting the hacker walk away with the loot, the bot front run the transaction. It paid a premium of nearly 19 ETH in gas fees to ensure its move was processed at the very start of the block. This allowed the bot to grab the funds before the attacker could move them.
These MEV bots often get a bad reputation for front running regular traders, but this case shows their defensive utility. By moving faster than the malicious actor, the bot secured the assets successfully.
Crypto users should keep an eye on how these protocols handle their security moving forward. While the funds are safe for now, this incident highlights the constant tension between automated bots and hackers in the smart contract space.
