Massachusetts Lottery Hits Record $29.7 Million Jackpot

A convenience store in Holyoke just made lottery history. King Mart on Westfield Road sold a winning ticket for the September 7 Megabucks drawing that is worth a massive $29.71 million. This prize sets a new record for the game, easily beating the previous high of $21.7 million set back in 1985.

The winning ticket matched all six numbers, which were 21, 28, 31, 34, 40, and 44. This win is significantly larger than the previous record for a single ticket, which was $16.35 million in 2022. The lucky holder now has one full year to step forward and claim their earnings.

Megabucks has been running since 1982, but it saw major changes in 2023. Officials lowered the number pool to improve player chances, added Monday drawings, and boosted lower tier prizes. While winning such a massive amount is incredibly rare, this record haul shows that the updated format is paying out big for the lucky few.
