LIVEHIVE Digital Technologies just posted its latest financial results, showing record Bitcoin production alongside a massive financial hurdle. The firm booked an $84.7 million non cash Swedish tax provision following adverse court rulings that forced a change in accounting assessments. Even though HIVE received 1,004 Bitcoin during the quarter, the tax provision helped drive a total GAAP net loss of $142.9 million.
The Swedish tax provision alone exceeded the company's $79.1 million in quarterly revenue. It also equals about 40.7 percent of the total cash balance held by the firm. The dispute involves contested value added tax exposure, including disputed input tax, tax supplements, and growing interest charges that continue to mount while the legal battle drags on.
HIVE applied for leave to appeal to the Supreme Administrative Court, but local legal counsel considers a favorable outcome unlikely. While the current liability label does not mean an immediate cash payment is due right now, interest keeps adding up. Market watchers will keep a close eye on how the company manages its cash reserves and handles further updates from Swedish tax authorities.
