Goldman Sachs and crypto exchange OKX had to cut off their Hong Kong staff from using Anthropic and its popular Claude AI model. Even though these restrictions happened months apart, they both stem from the same geographic access rules set by the AI developer. Anthropic currently restricts Claude access in both Hong Kong and mainland China.

OKX banned its local staff and traveling employees from using Claude after its corporate account was briefly suspended. While OKX managed to restore the account, the exchange decided to route future employee AI requests to other models instead. The restriction stands out because OKX heavily promotes daily AI use and spends millions every month on large language models. Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs faced a similar block earlier in the year because its contract with Anthropic did not cover the region.

These sudden blocks highlight the growing tension between US technology developers and regional rules in Asia. As the United States and China compete for dominance in artificial intelligence, US developers are drawing much stricter lines around where their tools can operate. Traders and tech teams should watch for further updates as upcoming talks between US and Chinese officials approach.
