A massive price spike for Kinesis Gold turned out to be a data glitch rather than a real market rally.

LIVECrypto traders did a double take this week when Kinesis Gold, a token backed by physical precious metal, suddenly appeared to jump more than 110 percent on CoinGecko. The chart showed the token dipping to a low near 66 dollars before bouncing back to its normal trading range around 140 dollars. Since physical gold prices stayed completely stable, the dramatic move caught the attention of market watchers.
The strange price action likely came from a glitch involving the Kinesis dollar stablecoin, C1USD. CoinGecko data showed the stablecoin temporarily dropping to 48 cents before recovering to one dollar. Because a large portion of Kinesis Gold trading happens in a pair against this stablecoin on the platform exchange, the temporary dip in the stablecoin made the gold token appear to double in price.
While tokenized gold continues to grow in popularity with billions of dollars now tracked on various blockchains, incidents like this highlight the risks of bad pricing data. Traders should always double check exchange pairs and volume sources when they spot unusual chart movements. For now, the Kinesis Gold price is back to normal, and the huge jump is chalked up to a simple technical error.
