Ethereum Upgrade Delayed to Late 2026

Ethereum developers have adjusted the project timeline, targeting the fourth quarter of 2026 for the major Glamsterdam upgrade. This shift comes as the team launches Platåberget, a new public testnet designed to provide a stable environment for identifying issues before the mainnet goes live. The delay is intended to ensure that critical applications, such as wallets and gas estimators, have enough time to adapt to changes in gas limits.

While Glamsterdam moves forward, the focus is already shifting to the subsequent upgrade known as Hegotá, which is planned for 2027. Developers are currently reviewing 66 different proposals for the network. They have a tight two week window to narrow down this list and finalize which features will actually make the cut. Proposals that lack a clear champion by late August will be automatically dropped from consideration.

Several key improvements are currently in the spotlight. FOCIL, also known as EIP 7805, is leading the conversation as a major fix for censorship resistance. Other contenders include Frame Transactions and various scaling improvements aimed at increasing network capacity. Groups like Ethlabs are also actively lobbying for upgrades like Quick Slots to improve transaction settlement speeds.

Investors and developers should watch for the finalization of the proposed list on August 27. The upcoming months of testing on Platåberget will be a critical indicator of the network's readiness for these changes, as the community attempts to balance technical innovation with the stability of existing decentralized applications.
