LIVELido remains a major player in the staking space, but its grip on the Ethereum market is loosening. In the first half of 2026, the protocol captured only 5.7 percent of the net increase in staked Ethereum. While the total amount of ETH staked on the network climbed from 36.3 million to 43.1 million, Lido's overall market share slipped from roughly 24 percent down to 21 percent.
The shift is largely driven by institutional capital flowing toward other staking options. Many institutions now opt for providers that do not charge the same protocol fees as Lido. This trend directly impacts the DAO's revenue, as the protocol balances the need for wider adoption against its goal of generating income from fees. In some cases, Lido has even introduced fee waivers to remain competitive for institutional accounts.
Financial challenges are also beginning to show in the protocol's mechanics. The system used for automated token buybacks recently hit a deficit, failing to trigger an expected allocation. This highlights the gap between total staked growth and the actual revenue flowing into the DAO treasury. Because of fee waivers and the specific ways institutions move capital, adding more staked ETH does not always translate into immediate earnings for the protocol.
Looking ahead, the market is keeping a close eye on how the validator queue and staking rewards influence investor decisions. With long wait times to activate new validators, many participants are looking for ways to earn rewards without the typical delays. Whether Lido can turn its liquid staking products into a reliable source of DAO income depends on how effectively it can capture assets in a market that now offers many alternatives for large institutional holders.
