LIVECredit unions can now offer Bitcoin services directly to their members without using third party crypto exchanges. The Circuit collaborative and technology firm DaLand have moved their Digital Asset Initiative into the implementation phase. This allows credit unions to integrate crypto features into their existing banking systems.
By using the CODE Engine and Coin2Core technology, these institutions keep full control over member data and custody. This hybrid model avoids the common practice of sending members to outside platforms. Three credit unions, including St. Cloud Financial and Canvas Credit Union, are already using this system to manage digital assets.
This move represents a shift for financial institutions as they look to build their own infrastructure rather than renting it from outside vendors. With combined assets of over 10 billion dollars involved, the program provides a way for credit unions to keep crypto activity visible for boards and regulators.
As federal legislation regarding digital assets gains momentum, this infrastructure allows credit unions to move from research to active participation. The participants hope this direct approach will set a standard for how credit unions manage digital assets in the future.
