LIVEThe Bitwise Solana Staking ETF faced a difficult first half of 2026. While the fund saw a healthy net increase of $267.1 million from share transactions, those gains were not enough to offset poor market performance. By the end of June, the fund held $592.3 million in net assets, which is roughly $49 million less than it started with at the end of December.
The decline stemmed from a $316 million loss from operations. The fund recorded $262.9 million in unrealized depreciation on its Solana holdings, alongside $70.9 million in realized losses. Even with $17.7 million in net investment income, largely driven by staking rewards, the losses were too steep to overcome. Consequently, the net asset value per share dropped from $16.37 to $10.01.
This outcome highlights a key reality for crypto investors. Even when a fund attracts significant capital, it cannot protect individual share value if the underlying asset price falls significantly. While the total number of shares in the fund grew from 39.18 million to 59.20 million, the expansion was not enough to shield shareholders from the broader slump in Solana prices.
Traders should watch how these funds perform when market sentiment turns positive. Comparisons with other funds like the Invesco Galaxy Solana ETF show that while net capital inflows can boost total assets, they remain at the mercy of the market. For now, the data serves as a reminder that ETF structures do not offer immunity from volatility.
