A new splinter project designed to fight network spam has failed to gain traction after mining only two blocks. The breakaway chain managed to draw just 2.53 percent of total mining support, leaving its blocks hours apart and struggling to stay online.

Because of the extremely low hashrate, the splinter network is roughly 350 days away from a difficulty adjustment. Meanwhile, the main Bitcoin network continues to power ahead at full speed with normal block times and high security.

This failed attempt highlights the difficulty of splitting the leading cryptocurrency network. Traders and miners generally prefer the security and liquidity of the main chain, leaving breakaway projects with little chance of survival.
