Bakkt Posts Record Profit Despite 70% Drop in Crypto Revenue
Bakkt reported a massive quarterly profit driven by paper gains rather than its core crypto services.
coinbeat.newsDigital asset infrastructure provider Bakkt just posted a surprising net income of $80.8 million for the second quarter of 2026. This completely reverses the $14.7 million loss the company reported during the same period last year. However, a closer look at the financial results shows that paper gains did all the heavy lifting while operating revenue actually declined significantly.
The headline profit was largely fueled by a $98.5 million non cash gain from revaluing warrants in Transchem, an Indian listed company. Meanwhile, the actual business side told a different story. Operating revenue dropped by 70 percent down to $170.1 million, which management blamed on client transitions and lower trading volumes across the digital asset sector.
Despite the drop in core revenue, the company managed to keep its balance sheet stable with $50.7 million in cash and no long term debt. Traders should keep an eye on whether Bakkt can turn its core crypto operations around in the coming quarters, or if future earnings will continue to rely on asset revaluations.
