AVAX One Faces Tough Debt Terms As Lender Rejects AVAX Tokens

Crypto treasury firm AVAX One is dealing with a severe restructuring after an institutional lender drastically tightened its financial rules. The company must now maintain a minimum liquidity of $3.5 million, which is a massive 35 times higher than the previous requirement of $100,000. Even though the firm holds nearly 14 million AVAX tokens worth about $88 million, the new agreement states that only bank cash and Bitcoin count toward this liquidity threshold. The strict terms follow the July departure of former CEO Jolie Kahn, which triggered a default on a key person covenant.

To settle the breach and secure the waiver, AVAX One paid $1.3 million and agreed to accelerated monthly redemptions. The lender also increased the remaining debt principal and lowered the conversion price for future share issues. This discount could lead to extra dilution for existing shareholders, especially as the company's stock price has dropped significantly since the leadership change.

Traders and investors should watch how AVAX One manages its cash reserves and leadership transition in the coming months. The company has a 180 day deadline from Kahn's departure to find an approved permanent CEO, with Peter Wylie Jr. currently serving in the interim. The ongoing exclusion of native tokens from the liquidity test highlights the risks that crypto firms face when relying heavily on volatile digital assets to satisfy traditional institutional lenders.
