LIVEBitcoin traders are keeping a close eye on the derivative markets today as about 19,500 options contracts are set to expire. With a total value of around $1.23 billion, this expiry event is actually much smaller than usual. Because of the lower volume, analysts expect the event to pass without causing major waves in the spot market.
The current put to call ratio sits at 0.87, showing that buyers and sellers are almost evenly matched. The max pain price is sitting at $62,500, which is slightly lower than the current spot price. Market data suggests traders are feeling less panicked about a sudden crash, even though many are still paying a small premium to protect against downward moves.
Along with Bitcoin, about $242 million in Ethereum options are also expiring today, bringing the total crypto expiry to around $1.4 billion. In the spot market, Bitcoin has recently dipped to around $63,300 after failing to hold its midweek highs. Traders should watch the $62,000 support level closely as the weekly trading session wraps up.
