Vitalik Buterin Wants to Make AI Proofs Readable for Humans

Ethereum co founder Vitalik Buterin recently proposed creating a specialized programming language designed to make AI generated mathematical proofs easier for humans to read. While tools like Lean already allow computers to verify code logic, these outputs are often too dense for a person to review quickly. Buterin suggests a language that focuses on clearly defining the claims and theorems, leaving the heavy lifting of verification to the machines.

This initiative arrives as Ethereum researchers move further into the Lean Ethereum roadmap. The project aims to verify the network's virtual machine using formal methods, which ensure that code behaves exactly as expected. As AI models become more adept at writing these proofs, the bottleneck shifts from generating the code to confirming what that code actually guarantees for the network.

The core of the proposal centers on the idea of separating complex, low level machine code from the readable, high level goals. By auditing the claims separately from the underlying machinery, developers can build more secure systems without needing to manually inspect every line of a computer generated proof. This approach could be a key defense against the rise of automated exploit attempts.

While no prototype of this language exists yet, the proposal is already sparking debate among developers. It remains to be seen if the community will rally around a single standard or develop several different dialects. If successful, this could change how blockchain developers verify their code, turning abstract mathematical guarantees into clear, readable documentation.
