VanEck has officially ended the zero sponsor fee period for its spot Bitcoin exchange traded fund, trading under the ticker HODL. The fund wrapped up its promotional period with $1.076 billion in net assets. This total sat about $1.424 billion below the initial $2.5 billion growth target set by the firm, meaning the fee waiver covered the fund all the way through its final day.

Starting today, investors holding the fund will face a flat 0.20% annual sponsor fee on all trust assets. For everyday market participants, this fee equates to roughly $20 annually for every $10,000 invested, though total ownership costs can vary based on brokerage commissions and market spreads. Even with the new fee in place, HODL remains competitively priced against rival products in the spot Bitcoin space.

Market watchers will now monitor how the fee change impacts daily inflows and outflows for the fund. While zero fee periods draw strong initial interest, the true test for any exchange traded fund begins when standard management fees take effect. Traders should keep an eye on volume and net flows over the coming weeks to see if investors stick around.
