Trezor Data Breach Affects 80,000 Total Customers

Hardware wallet manufacturer Trezor has issued a sobering update regarding a data breach involving its logistics partner, ShipMonk. The company now confirms that an additional 67,000 customers had their personal information exposed, bringing the total number of affected users to over 80,000. These users placed orders between November 2019 and August 2021.

The incident stems from ShipMonk failing to delete customer data as requested by Trezor. Despite receiving written assurances that the old records were destroyed, Trezor discovered that the information remained in the logistics provider's systems. The exposed details include names, emails, phone numbers, and shipping addresses.

Trezor stresses that its own internal systems remain safe and that no private keys or wallet backups were compromised. While the hardware wallets themselves function correctly, the company is warning users to be extremely careful. Criminals with this data might use it to launch phishing attacks or identify potential targets for physical theft.

If you have not received an email notification directly from Trezor, the company states that your data was likely not affected. Moving forward, users should stay alert for suspicious emails, phone calls, or physical mail claiming to be from the wallet provider. The company is currently managing the fallout and communicating directly with those impacted by this security failure.
