Trezor Data Breach Affects 67,000 More Users Than Expected

Hardware wallet provider Trezor revealed that a recent security breach at its shipping partner, ShipMonk, is significantly worse than initially reported. While the company first estimated that 13,689 users were affected, it now states that an additional 67,000 users had their personal information exposed. This brings the total number of compromised accounts to over 80,000.

The trouble stems from a failure in data management. Trezor previously assumed its 90 day data deletion policy was being followed by its partner. However, it turns out the older data from 2019 and 2021 was never deleted, despite written assurances from ShipMonk that the company was complying with privacy contracts.

This incident is a serious concern for crypto holders, as leaked personal details can make users targets for phishing attacks and other scams. Trezor has apologized for the failure and is currently working to arrange an audit of the shipping firm. They also noted they are moving toward anonymous delivery options to help protect customer privacy in the future.

For those affected, it is vital to remain extra cautious regarding emails or messages that claim to be from Trezor. Scammers often use stolen contact information to create very convincing lures.
