Trade.xyz Reimburses Traders After SK Hynix Liquidation Crash
Trade.xyz is stepping up to cover losses for nearly 1,000 traders caught in a sudden price drop.
coinbeat.newsTrade.xyz announced it will reimburse users for losses caused by a sharp price drop in its SK Hynix perpetual contracts on July 27. The anomaly saw the contract price plunge from $1,127.90 to $917.25 in a single move. This triggered a cascade of liquidations totaling about $17.3 million in realized losses across the Hyperliquid platform.
The team explained that the price drop originated from an external data source that the platform uses for its oracle. Although the oracle functioned as intended, it tracked an isolated trade on a Korean pre market venue that caused a temporary price crash. The platform confirmed that the underlying market eventually recovered, but not before many leveraged positions were closed automatically.
Affected users should watch for forthcoming updates on how to claim their compensation. Trade.xyz stated this is a one time measure to support its community and does not set a permanent precedent for future market volatility.
Looking ahead, the platform is reviewing its pricing systems to better protect against similar events. This includes re evaluating its reliance on external data providers and potentially increasing the influence of its own order book activity when calculating mark prices.
