The sector for tokenized real world assets is seeing a surge in popularity. Data shows the total number of holders has reached a record high of 3.67 million. Tokenized stocks are the main driver of this growth, accounting for 2.96 million holders, which is about 80 percent of the entire market. Other categories like commodities and asset backed credit remain far behind in terms of user adoption.

While the holder count has jumped by over 150 percent in the last month, trading activity tells a different story. Monthly transfer volume for these assets plummeted by nearly 51 percent to 13.14 billion dollars. Additionally, the number of monthly active addresses has dropped by 48 percent, suggesting that while more people are holding these assets, fewer are actively buying or selling them.

This trend of quiet markets extends to decentralized exchanges as well. Perpetual trading volume for real world assets fell to 122 billion dollars in August, down from the July record of 141 billion dollars. Leading platforms like Ondo and xStocks currently dominate the space by value, but the market is clearly waiting for a spark.

The industry will be watching closely to see if this wider base of investors will eventually return to active trading. Whether the current holder growth translates back into higher liquidity will determine the direction for the rest of the year.
