Telegram Targets .gram Domain for One Billion Users

Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced that the messaging platform has applied for its own top level domain, .gram. If the application gets the green light from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, users could claim personalized web addresses. These addresses would link directly to their existing Telegram usernames.

The project aims to simplify web publishing by using artificial intelligence. Users would be able to generate interactive websites through a single text prompt within the Telegram app. The platform would handle the hosting, keeping everything within its own ecosystem and further integrating the TON blockchain into daily internet tasks.

Approval is not guaranteed, as the application is part of a massive pool of over 1,600 requests filed with ICANN. The governing body plans to release a list of cleared domain strings by mid October. Even if the bid succeeds, a full rollout for users is not expected until at least 2027.

Market reaction to the news has been quiet so far. The GRAM token is currently trading near $1.32, which is well below its all time high. Investors are watching to see if this new infrastructure project helps drive more activity and utility for the network in the coming years.
