LIVEStrategy announced on Monday that it skipped a Bitcoin purchase for the fifth consecutive time. Instead, the firm focused its capital on repurchasing $25 million of its own preferred stock, known as STRC. This move follows a successful period where the company generated over $544 million in net proceeds by selling millions of shares of its common stock through an at the market program.
This marks the first time the company has executed a buyback for its STRC product. Despite the recent pause in acquiring new digital assets, Strategy remains the largest corporate owner of Bitcoin in the world. Its balance sheet still contains 843,775 coins, which represents a value of more than $55 billion based on current market prices.
Management describes these buybacks as a strategy to maintain a strong balance sheet rather than a signal that they are backing away from their long term goals. While the firm currently holds $3.75 billion in cash, CEO Phong Le maintains that the company intends to keep purchasing Bitcoin in the future.
Investors are watching these movements closely as Strategy has been the most prominent corporate advocate for holding Bitcoin since it began its accumulation journey in 2020. Shares of the company, which trades under the ticker MSTR, rose nearly 7 percent on Monday following the announcement.
