Strategy is making a strong push to escape its junk credit rating after erasing nearly $8 billion of net debt in just eleven months. Chaitanya Jain, the company head of investor relations, pointed out that the firm has successfully strengthened its balance sheet across the exact areas previously flagged by S&P Global Ratings.

To address liquidity concerns, Strategy grew its dollar reserves from $54 million up to $6.54 billion. This massive cash cushion gives the firm about four years of capacity to cover interest and preferred dividends without needing to sell any of its massive Bitcoin holdings. At the same time, the company reduced its convertible debt from $8.21 billion down to $6.71 billion by smartly repurchasing notes at a discount.

Despite a sharp drop in the price of Bitcoin earlier in the year, Strategy kept its financing machine running smoothly by raising $21 billion through equity sales between January and August. This continuous market access directly addresses the main concerns raised by rating agencies during periods of market stress.

Even with these major financial improvements, S&P has not yet changed its rating. The agency still watches the company closely due to its heavy concentration in Bitcoin, as the firm holds over 845,000 coins on its balance sheet. Traders and analysts are now waiting to see if these aggressive debt cuts will finally convince rating agencies to lift Strategy out of junk status.
