Standard Chartered has officially launched deliverable Bitcoin and Ether spot trading for institutional clients based in the United Arab Emirates. The service operates through the bank’s arm in the Dubai International Financial Center. This move makes Standard Chartered the first Global Systemically Important Bank to provide such services within the country.

The new offering integrates trade execution with the bank’s existing custody services. Clients can settle trades using a custodian of their choice, including the bank’s internal digital asset custody platform. By using the same electronic interfaces already utilized for foreign exchange trading, the bank aims to make adding crypto assets to a portfolio simple for professional investors.

This expansion follows a successful launch of similar services in the United Kingdom last year. The Dubai Financial Services Authority provides the regulatory oversight for these operations. The bank views the UAE as a prime location for digital asset growth due to its clear regulatory framework for institutional participants.

This initiative is part of a larger digital asset strategy for the bank, which already supports USDC transactions and various ventures in the tokenization space. As the institution continues to build out its infrastructure in the region, traders should watch for further signs of traditional banking giants increasing their footprint in digital asset markets.
