SpaceX Picks Nvidia For Starmind AI Satellites

SpaceX has chosen Nvidia to design the computing payload for its upcoming Starmind AI1 satellites. The orbital data center project will feature Nvidia Rubin GPUs and Vera CPUs, marking a major expansion for both companies into space computing.

The deal fills a missing spot for SpaceX, which was left off Nvidia's initial space partner list back in March. Earlier this year, SpaceX asked the Federal Communications Commission for permission to launch up to one million orbital data center satellites. Volume shipments of the new chips are expected to start this fall.

Financial questions remain as the AI unit lost significant money last year, relying heavily on Starlink cash flow. Regulators also need to approve the massive satellite filing before the project can fully launch.
