Space Tech Breakthrough Uses 1,500 Magnets As Radiation Shield

Scientists are testing a new prototype that uses about 1,500 neodymium permanent magnets to deflect solar radiation in space. The compact panel measures just 0.37 square meters and is designed to block roughly twenty percent of low energy solar protons without using any spacecraft power.

Building this system comes with practical challenges. The current design weighs about 200 kilograms and the magnets alone cost around $35,000. It also leaves higher energy particles unaffected, meaning extra shielding is still needed for complete safety.

While this concept is still in early feasibility testing, it points to new ways to keep astronauts safe during long space missions. Traders and tech watchers will want to follow how aerospace startups fund and develop this hardware moving forward.
