South Korean Tech Giants Rally As US Markets Face Rough Return
Samsung and SK Hynix push the Kospi higher while Wall Street braces for inflation data and rising oil prices after Labor Day.
South Korean tech heavyweights Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix led a strong market rally on Tuesday, even as Wall Street futures pointed toward a weaker opening. The Kospi index rose 1.25 percent to reach 7,083.84 by late morning in Seoul. Investors continue to pile into artificial intelligence related stocks, pushing chipmakers higher despite a nervous global macroeconomic backdrop.
Over in the United States, traders returned from the Labor Day holiday to face rising Treasury yields and surging oil prices. Brent crude climbed to $97.31 a barrel following recent tensions involving Iran and the United States. These rising energy costs have intensified inflation concerns ahead of crucial wholesale and consumer price reports scheduled for later this week.
Traders are now pricing in roughly a 60 percent chance of a quarter point interest rate hike from the Federal Reserve at its upcoming meeting. As global markets react to these shifting economic pressures, crypto traders should keep a close eye on upcoming inflation figures because stronger than expected numbers could cause sudden volatility across risk assets.
