LIVESolana validators approved a major proposal to double the rate at which SOL token emissions decline. This marks the very first measure to pass through the network and its new onchain governance system. It is also the first time validators have agreed to cut token issuance.
The proposal, known as SGP 0002, closed on Friday with overwhelming support. It drew 176.29 million SOL in favor and 66.19 million SOL against the change. Even major crypto exchange Kraken reversed its stance late in the voting process to help push the measure over the finish line.
This vote represents a big milestone for decentralized governance on Solana. Slower token emission rates usually mean less supply inflation over time, which can impact market dynamics for holders and traders.
Traders and validators will now watch to see how the market reacts to the slowing supply growth. Keep an eye on future onchain proposals as the Solana community continues to shape its economic policy.
