Solana is preparing for its v1 transaction format, which will expand transaction size limits by more than three times. While the mainnet has not activated the feature yet, testnet and devnet are already running it. Infrastructure providers and node operators must update their software before the rollout to avoid major system disruptions.

The upgrade brings two distinct types of failures for systems that are not ready. Some RPC clients and indexers will completely freeze or crash when they encounter v1 data. Other systems will keep running normally but fail silently, reading incorrect resource limits and reporting zero compute budgets for valid transactions.

Server signers, paymasters, and relayers also need to change how they enforce fee caps. Because v1 moves priority fees and limits into a new configuration object, old scanning tools will treat them as empty. Developers must update libraries and check for the new transaction formats immediately to keep applications running safely.
