Solana rolls out Agave 4.2 with major performance boosts

Solana developers activated three significant upgrades on the mainnet starting the week of August 17. These changes under the Agave 4.2 banner represent the largest infrastructure shift for the network since Firedancer arrived. The update aims to make the chain faster and more efficient for everyone using the ecosystem.

One of the biggest changes is a 90 percent reduction in rent costs for accounts on the network. Along with this, the system now supports transactions that are 3.3 times larger than before. These adjustments allow developers to build more complex applications without hitting current technical bottlenecks.

The network is also taking a big step toward faster speeds. Solana is beginning a staged rollout to drop slot times from the current 400 milliseconds down to 200 milliseconds. Traders and users should watch how these technical improvements influence overall network congestion and transaction success rates in the coming weeks.
