The August 17 target for activating Agave 4.2 features passed without a confirmed status update for the Solana mainnet. While the development team recommended the software for adoption earlier in the month, the specific feature gates that bring performance improvements to the network are still pending. An empty delivery field on the project schedule indicates that these changes are not yet live for users.

At the center of this update are several major technical shifts, including plans to reduce slot times from 400 milliseconds down to 200 milliseconds. Additionally, the roadmap includes a significant 90 percent reduction in storage rent costs and an increase in transaction payload limits. Currently, the feature tracker shows these specific gates as inactive, meaning the network is waiting for further coordination to move these components into production.

Traders and developers should watch for a confirmed activation epoch to see when these performance upgrades actually take effect. While Agave 4.2 is ready for general use, the staged rollout means that improvements like cheaper storage and faster transaction finality are not yet active.
