Retirees could see their average monthly checks rise to $2,007.98 if the latest forecast holds true. The Senior Citizens League pegs the projected 2027 cost of living adjustment at 3.5 percent, which translates to an extra $67.90 each month for the typical recipient.

While this figure sits just below an earlier projection of 3.6 percent, it still represents the largest annual bump since 2023. AARP shares a similar outlook, expecting the final adjustment to land between 3.5 and 3.6 percent once September inflation data is finalized.

The Social Security Administration plans to make the official announcement on October 14, aligning with the release of the Consumer Price Index data. Despite the potential increase, advocacy groups warn that fixed income adjustments often fail to keep pace with the specific expenses faced by older Americans.
