Regulators have taken action against a US based crypto mining operation that allegedly raised 22 million dollars from hundreds of investors while putting only a tiny fraction of the money toward actual equipment. The Securities and Exchange Commission filed charges against Zan Shaikh and Bright Vision Distribution, doing business as Mining Automatic. According to the complaint, the defendants promised guaranteed monthly returns even though the operation lacked the capacity to generate them.

The regulatory filing states that the project spent just 13 cents of every dollar on actual mining activities. Instead, the operators allegedly used investor funds for aggressive marketing to attract new participants, along with personal expenses and unrelated business costs. The defendants have agreed to proposed permanent injunctions pending court approval, while decisions on financial penalties and potential money recovery will happen at a later date.

Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has launched a victim outreach page to identify more people affected by the operation. The FBI Boston Division is asking potential victims connected to Shaikh and related companies to come forward. This broader outreach suggests the number of affected participants could grow as investigators piece together the full scope of the project.

Traders and investors should view this case as a strong reminder to thoroughly research crypto projects, especially those promising guaranteed returns. As the court reviews the proposed judgments and the FBI continues gathering information, investors are left waiting to see if any of their lost funds can eventually be recovered.
